For some people this may be the case but for many others this is a mistake that will cost them more money in the long run. And as many times as I tried to convey this message with the customers that I was talking to it amazed me how many people ignored my advice and then later came back complaining about how often they have to replace their expensive ink cartridges.

How To Choose The Right Ink Jet Printer
If you are someone who prints both pictures and text and does so on a fairly irregular basis then your standard ink jet printer may be the best option. An ink jet printer forces the ink inside the cartridges through a tiny hole and it is this pressure that it hears the ink to the paper. There are two things you should be looking for when buying an ink jet printer. The first is how many color ink cartridges does the ink jet printer have. The number of color ink cartridges can range anywhere from one cartridge up to six cartridges. The reason for the wide variance in ink cartridges is that the more color ink cartridges there are in the ink jet printer the higher-quality photo print you're going to have. This is because the individual color ink cartridges do a much better job of blending colors and providing crisper edges than a single color ink cartridge. The second feature that should be looking for when purchasing an ink jet printer is whether or not the ink cartridges come in high-capacity or extra-large sizes. These high-capacity cartridges are the exact same physical size than regular cartridges hold much more ink and greatly reduce your average cost per page printed.

If printing a lot of text documents sounds more like the way you print on a daily basis then purchasing a laser printer is highly recommended. Laser printers don't actually use ink they use a toner that is applied to the paper using a laser, hence the term laser printer. With recent developments in color laser printing you can also get some high-quality photo prints using laser printers as well. Would laser printers the initial investment in your toner cartridges is greater than with ink jet printers but when you can average around 5000 prints per cartridge you can understand why these may be a bit more expensive. Just because their expensive though doesn't mean that their average cost per page printed isn't a huge advantage over an ink jet printer.

Making sure you choose the right printer can mean saving quite a bit of money down the road. As I have described above the first thing you must do is determine what your printing habits are. Once 
you have determined this making the right choice becomes much easier. If you still have questions make sure that you do your ink jet printer research online or go into a electronics retailer and ask their employees what their opinions are. If they give you the runaround let them know that you're not there to buy today but are just doing research for a future purchase. If they continue to provide you with information after you have made this statement then you know they are there to help you and not to sell you something. Most importantly do your research and it doesn't matter if you buy an ink jet printer or a laser printer, if purchase based on your research you will save you money and get the high quality prints you desire.
